Welcome back to the Potty-Training Toddlers Newsletter brought to you by Potty-Training Toddlers - Real Tips from Real Parents popular Facebook Group.

This week we want to talk about getting a support team together to help potty-training.

Potty-training can feel like a solo mission, but guess what? You don't have to go it alone! Getting everyone on the same page is key to a smoother, more successful experience. Here's how to build your potty-training dream team:

1. The Shared Plan

  • Map it Out: Create a simple, written potty-training plan. Think of it as your family's potty-training roadmap. Include your goals, the techniques you'll use, and what you expect from everyone involved.

  • Share: Make sure everyone – nannies, grandparents, babysitters, partners – receives a copy of this plan.

  • Have a Huddle: Sit down with all caregivers to discuss the plan. This is the perfect time to answer questions, address concerns, and ensure everyone feels comfortable and confident.

2. All Hands-on Deck: Involving Your Caregivers

  • Consistency is Your Superpower: Encourage everyone to follow the same routines, use the same encouraging words, and maintain a consistent approach. This avoids confusion for your little one.

  • Celebrate the Wins: Remind everyone to shower your child with praise and positive reinforcement for every success, big or small! Let's keep the focus on the positive.

  • Keep the Communication Flowing: Encourage caregivers to share updates – both triumphs and tricky moments. This open communication allows you to address challenges proactively and celebrate progress as a team.

3. When You Need Extra Support: Seeking Professional Guidance

  • Tap into Expert Knowledge: If you're hitting roadblocks, don't hesitate to reach out to the pros. Your pediatrician, an early childhood specialist, or a potty-training consultant can offer valuable insights.

  • Explore Specialized Help: Services like Go Diaper free offers personalized consultations and courses, both in person and virtually.

  • You're Not Alone! Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength. Lean on friends, family, or professionals for support and encouragement.

4. Fueling Success: Tips to Keep Things Positive

  • Make it a Party! Turn potty time into a fun experience with games, songs, and lots of positive energy.

  • Patience is Your Best Friend: Potty training is a journey, not a race. Be patient with your child and stay consistent in your approach.

  • Celebrate Every Step: Acknowledge and celebrate every little victory. Even a successful flush deserves a mini-cheer!

  • Keep Going! Setbacks happen. Don't let them discourage you. Stay positive, keep trying, and celebrate each milestone along the way.

Communication with Daycare Staff:

⭐️ Discuss their policy: Find out what the daycare's potty training policy is, including their expectations for readiness and how they handle accidents.

⭐️ Share your plan: Inform the daycare staff about your home potty training routine and any specific strategies you're using.

⭐️ Ask for support: Request their help in implementing your plan and ask for feedback on your child's progress.

⭐️ Designate a primary caregiver: If possible, ask a specific caregiver to be the primary point of contact for potty training, as they can better understand your child's cues and needs.

⭐️ Ask about bathroom setup: Inquire about the bathroom setup at daycare and how your child will be using it, including the type of toilet and any specific routines.

⭐️ Inquire about potty breaks: Ask about the frequency and timing of potty breaks and how they are scheduled.

⭐️ Discuss potty signals: Determine if the daycare staff will be able to pick up on your child's potty signals, or if they need to be taught a specific signal or verbal cue.

Tip of the Week: Remember that teamwork is the dreamwork and you are NOT alone. Getting everyone involved in your child’s life involved in the potty-training journey, will surely prove to offer success!

As we always say, every child’s potty-training journey is different. Be patient, be kind and be supportive.
